DMZ비무장지대

캠프그리브스는 DMZ 남방한계선에서 2km 떨어진 곳으로 민간인출입통제선 내 위치하고 있다. 캠프그리브스는 국내 가장 오래된 미군기지 중 한 곳으로 미군이 1953년부터 조성하여 미 육군 2사단 506연대가 2004년 8월 철수할 때까지 50여 년간 주둔했던 곳이다. 2007년 우리나라로 반환 이후, 경기도가 2013년 역사·문화 체험시설로 개방한 이곳은 미군이 사용했던 건축물을 원형 그대로 보존 활용한 민통선 내 유일한 역사·문화·예술 체험의 장소로 역사적 의미와 가치가 있다. 2016년 문화재생사업으로 리모델링한 10개 전시관을 중심으로 ‘DMZ 평화정거장(DMZ Peace Platform)’ 문화예술 프로젝트를 통해 역사, 문화, 예술이 집약된 DMZ평화 관광의 거점 공간으로 발전하고 있다.

Camp Greaves is located 2km away from the Southern Limit Line(SLL) of the DMZ within the Civilian Control Zone(CCZ). It is one of the oldest U.S. military bases in South Korea which was built in 1953 and served as a camp base for the 506th U.S. Second Infantry Division for about 50 years until the division withdrew in August 2004. By Gyeonggi-do Province, Camp Greaves was turned into a history and cultural experiential facility in 2013 after it reverted to the Korean government in 2007. The building and structures of the camp have been kept the same way when it was occupied by the U.S. military, serving as the only venue for history and culture & art activities within the CCZ. In this sense, the venue provides historical significance and value. Operating 10 exhibition halls remodeled as part of the cultural regeneration project in 2016, Camp Greaves is evolving into a center for DMZ peace tourism through the DMZ Peace Platform.
